Certain Android Auto apps will only function when the vehicle is in ‘P’ mode, emphasizing the importance of staying focused on the road.

Safety is a top priority for Android Auto, as the platform is now restricting the use of entertainment apps while driving. Google is implementing measures to ensure that certain apps can only be accessed when the car is parked and fully stopped. These apps will be available for electric vehicle users to enjoy while their car is charging or when they are waiting. The latest version of Android Auto includes touchscreen games designed to keep drivers entertained during breaks in their journey.

Android Auto version 11.4

According to a report by 9To5Google, Android Auto version 11.4 supports entertainment apps that only work when the car is stopped or parked. Users cannot access these apps while the car is in drive mode as they are only available for entertainment purposes. Previously, if a driver tried to access the app, a pop-up would appear asking users to park to open the app, now the new update will show a “P” icon at the bottom of the app.

These apps include gaming and video streaming apps like GameSnacks. A new icon is introduced to clarify which application can be used while running.

In addition to apps, Android Auto version 11.4 also includes message digests, which integrate artificial intelligence (AI) to paraphrase 40-word text messages. Note that AI summaries only work on long posts. For short messages, Google Assistant reads the content out loud.

Android Auto version 11.4 has reportedly started rolling out to EV owners, but keep an eye on the Playstore to download the new updates.
